COVID 19 INFORMATION

FA22 Health and Safety Procedures: SASers take care of SASers!

When feeling sick or experiencing cold and flu symptoms:

  1. Wear a mask | Wear a KN95 or N95 mask in your room, except when sleeping, as well as in class and social environments until symptoms subside. This will limit the spread of even common colds within our community.
  2. Call or visit | If symptoms are serious or worsen, visit the clinic during scheduled clinic hours (0900-1000 or 1630-1730 while at sea; these vary in port). Call reception (5404) at any time if symptoms require emergency evaluation outside of scheduled clinic hours.
  3. Test | The medical team will administer tests as appropriate to sick voyagers.

If you test positive for COVID while onboard:

  1. Wear a mask for 10 days | An N95 mask will be provided to voyagers who test positive. They will be required to wear this whenever outside their temporary isolation cabin, except when in the open air on deck, as well as following their medical release from isolation. Masks must be worn for 10 days.
  2. Isolate for meals, sleep and study | Voyagers who test positive will be moved to an isolation cabin for meals and sleeping. These voyagers will be allowed to attend classes and community events outside their quarters during this isolation period provided they wear an N95 mask and maintain 2m distance from others.
  3. Stay on board | Covid-positive voyagers cannot go ashore while in isolation.
  4. Test | Voyagers who test positive (Day 0) will begin to be retested on Day 3 only if their symptoms have completely resolved. When symptoms resolve they will be retested and, if 2 negative tests are obtained on 2 sequential days, they will be released from isolation. These voyagers can also be released on Day 6 regardless of test results. Both groups must continue to mask until Day 10.

If you’re a close contact of a positive case while onboard:

  1. Wear a mask | Close contacts are required to wear well-fitted face masks for five (5) days following exposure.
  2. Test daily | Close contacts of positive cases will not be required to quarantine onboard but will undergo daily Rapid antigen testing for 5 days, after which they are released.
  3. Access not restricted | Close contacts under observation must continue to mask and follow other guidance from medical staff, but may leave the ship during this period.

If you test positive while off ship:

  1. Mask and isolate as much as possible | Voyagers should travel with a mask for this purpose and should avoid being unmasked with the group, limit to the degree possible close contact (including while traveling) and must isolate for meals.
  2. Notify | Voyagers must notify on-call medical following a positive test. If on a field program, the trip liaison must be notified.
  3. Reboard the World Odyssey | As soon as possible, COVID-positive voyagers will be allowed to reboard the ship and enter the isolation protocol outlined above.

If you are a close contact of a positive case while off ship:

  1. Mask and test | Follow protocols outlined above for on-ship close contacts.
  2. Report | Notify on-call medical staff of suspected exposure. Upon return to ship (early return not required), submit to testing until day 5 after exposure.
