Organization & Club Guidelines

Student Organizations provide the opportunity for on-ship engagement, community building and a space to learn and grow outside the classroom.

All student organizations through Semester at Sea must adhere to the following guidelines. Violations of these guidelines may result in removal of club membership, dissolvement of the club, and/or formal conduct process involvement.

General

  • All organizations must be in line with the Semester at Sea values: personal well-being, interconnectedness, academic excellence, respect, inclusion, integrity, and organizational strength
  • Organizations, and all members, must follow all policies and rules outlined in the Voyager’s Handbook

Programming & Meetings

  • No organized group travel is permitted; no events should be hosted by or on behalf of Semester at Sea, or a student organization belonging to Semester at Sea in port
  • Spaces on ship for meetings and programs are limited – Student organizations need to be flexible and will need to share spaces or limit the number of events/meetings that take place in locations
  • Organizations must follow all outlined protocols to schedule spaces and AV on the ship; it is recommended that students be creative in identifying alternative spaces to meet with students outside of the spaces that are able to be reserved

Marketing & Leadership

  • Each organization will be assigned an advisor, or students can seek out a staculty member to request for them to be the advisor. Organization leaders should periodically update the advisor on how the club is doing and share what they need from the advisor. It should be noted that while club leaders can share requests for advisors, but cannot require attendance at meetings or events.
  • Marketing should be done through the Dean’s Memo or SeaChat – No posters may be placed around the ship.
